ATS officer suicide: He asked driver for his gun, minutes later commandos found Rajesh Sahni in pool of blood
Rajesh Sahni, an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), posted at the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), allegedly committed suicide at the ATS Headquarters by shooting himself with his own service revolver.
The police have so far not recovered any suicide not from his room at the ATS Headuqarters, situated in Gomtinagar Lucknow. A case has been registered and the body has been sent for the post mortem.
Sahni had taken leave from May 28 to June 7. Despite on leave, he came to the office on Tuesday morning and sat in his room on the pretext of seeing some important files. He had chat with few colleagues and his team members. After sometimes, he called his driver and asked to bring his service pistol.
Those present in the UP ATS Office at the time of the incident claimed that they heard sound of single shot fired in his room at around 12.45 pm. “We ran towards his room and saw him lying in his chair in a pool of blood,” said an ATS commando.
He had shot himself in his head from point blank range with his pistol. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. His family members were informed about the incident.
“A probe has been ordered to ascertain reasons behind the police officer taking the extreme step. The pistol is sent for the ballistic examination to the forensic lab,” said the SSP Deepak Kumar.

Police is baffled why the ASP shot himself after coming to the office after going on leave. Was he undergoing some work pressure or facing any humiliation from any corners or having troubled family life, these are the few question, the police is trying to find answers.
Hailing from Patna in Bihar, Rajesh Sahni, had joined UP ATS in July 2014. Since then he had nabbed many Pak-trained terrorists and cracked different sleeping modules of the terror outfits in Uttar Pradesh and other states.
A 1992 batch Provincial Police Service (PPS) officer, Sahni was considered as the most daring police officer in the ATS. Recently, he had arrested a person from Uttarakhand who served as the cook of Pakistan Army officer and was passing on information to him through Pak embassy.
In a condolence message, the DGP O.P. Singh said: “It gives us immense grief to communicate unfortunate demise of Rajesh Sahni, Additional SP ATS. He was one of the most promising officers of UP Police. The reasons of his suicide are still being ascertained. Our prayers are with the family. May his sould rest in peace.”
