Accused of Gauri Lankesh killing, Parashuram Waghmare was 'Kohli' among his friends
Parashuram Waghmare, the man who confessed to killing Gauri Lankesh was known for his cricket skills. According to a media report, his impressive prowess with the bat earned him the moniker Kohli among his friends.
The article cites police report on Waghmare to say that he was a good, aggressive batsman. His cricket talent earned him the nickname Kohli among his friends in Sindagi, Karnataka. Waghmare mostly used to hang around with his friends who had ties to Sri Ram Sene. He was reportedly a fitness freak and took part in various physical activities including wrestling in the outskirts of the town. Waghmare's association with Sri Ram Sene though had started long back when he used to live in Raichur. After relocating to Sindagi, he again got in touch with the local associates of the organisation.
Waghmare was reportedly 'spotted' by some of the senior members of the organisation in early 2017, who roped him for the job. He was earlier implicated in 2012 Pakistan flag case. In his confession, Waghmare has said that he killed the journalist for ‘his religion’. The 26-year-old who was picked by the SIT probing the murder claimed he didn’t know who he was killing when he allegedly pumped four bullets into the journalist in Bengaluru. Waghmare, claimed he was brought to Bengaluru on September 3, 2017 where he was trained to use an airgun. According to reports, so far he hasn't shown any remorse for his action.
He said he was taken to Gauri Lankesh’s house for reconnaissance and taken to the house on another day, but she was already inside. He added: “On September 5, I was given the gun around 4pm by the biker and we went to her house in the evening. We arrived at the right time. Gauri had stopped her car in front of the gate and was opening it from inside when I approached her. I coughed lightly and she turned towards me. I pumped four bullets into her.”

Lankesh, who was known for her anti-Hindutva voice, was shot dead on September 5 evening when she returned home in her car and was opening the gate of her house. The murder triggered a nationwide outrage. Government constituted the special investigation team to probe the murder.
The team led by inspector general of police B K Singh has so far arrested six people, who are gun runner K T Naveen Kumar alias Hotte Manja, Sujith Kumar, Amol Kale, Manohar Edve, Amit Degvekar and Parashuram Waghmare.
