New trailer for live-action 'Dumbo' has stamp of Tim Burton's signature style

Disney released the first ever trailer for the live-action remake of their animation classic Dumbo.

Director Tim Burton, who reimagined Alice in Wonderland, is back again to give a new spin to this classic tale. The story for Dumbo follows a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him standout and as a result, he becomes the butt of the jokes. Soon the circus realises the flying potential of this unique elephant and attracts an entrepreneur who wants to go big on the concept of larger-than-life entertainment. As the movie will progress, some dark secrets will test the bond between the creature and the family that takes care of him.

Colin Farrell plays Holt Farrier. Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins as his kids make the family that gets roped in by Danny DeVito's circus owner. After playing the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Michael Keaton is once again playing the bad guy.

The trailer is an opulent showcase of Burton's unique style of storytelling. Set to a soulful (a bit melancholic?) rendition of 'Baby of Mine' from the original movie, the trailer has Burton exploit every inch of circus quirk in the 1.20-minutes-long trailer. At one point, an overhead shot reminds the viewers of beautiful scenes from Beauty and Beasts song 'Be Our Guest.' There are plenty of colours to contrast the sepia background tone of the movie. Marching band, purple bubbles, and in the end, Dumbo taking a flight!

Disney has already made live-action The Jungle Book. Dumbo is part of the slate that also has live-action version Lion King and Aladdin in the making

Official Synopsis -

From Disney and visionary director Tim Burton, the all-new grand live-action adventure “Dumbo” expands on the beloved classic story where differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight. Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.

Dumbo is scheduled to release in March 2019.
