Watch: Digvijiaya Singh lashes out at elderly Congress supporter, threatens to 'drown him in river'

The Congress might be down and out, failing to register wins and heavily dependent on regional allies to prop them up and keep a conquering BJP at bay, but that hasn’t stopped some of their leaders from showcasing their trademark arrogance.

One of the primary reasons that the Congress were vanquished was their elitist notion that they were born to rule, that Indians have no other options. While the party is trying hard to recalibrate its image with Rahul Gandhi projecting himself as the ‘people’s champion’, old habits die hard.

Recently, a video of Digvijaya Singh went viral which showed the senior Congress leader castigating an elderly person who falls upon his feet. The incident appears to have taken place in Orcha, Madhya Pradesh where the senior Congress leader got angry with an aged gentleman who was raising a slogan supporting Digvijaya Singh.

As Singh heard the old man’s slogan, he brusquely told him: “If you say that slogan again, I will drown you in the river.”

Embarrassed the old man prostrates himself at Digvijaya Singh’s feet seeking an apology.

Watch the video below:

The former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, was earlier removed as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in charge of Goa, Karnataka and Telangana. The Congress president appointed former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy as the AICC general secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh, in place of Singh, according to a party statement.

Singh's role as AICC in-charge of Goa came in for criticism when the party failed to stake its claim for government formation and lost out to the BJP despite emerging as the single-largest party. Seventy-one-year-old Singh was recently appointed the chairman of the Congress's coordination committee for Madhya Pradesh, which goes to polls in a few months.
