Gujarat: Outside food and water to be allowed in theaters soon
Now cinema-goers in Gujarat will soon be able to carry outside food and water in the cinema halls. The state government is preparing to issue the notification to all cinema halls, theaters and other public places too. The process for the same is underway and the final notification will be out soon.
The Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Jayesh Radadiya said, "We have been doing the same exercise for many days. The discussion on the issue is in the final phase and we shall come out with the due notification soon. We are really concerned about common people's issues and we firmly believe that cinema halls should not force consumers to purchase food items, beverages or water bottles from the outlet inside the halls only."
"We are going to conduct raids over the cinema halls and theaters across the state and will take stringent measures against those who do not allow consumers to carry their own food or overcharge them for food materials or drinks," added the minister.
The state government will form the teams in each of the cities and towns, which would frequently make a surprise visit to cinema halls and check whether and if they do not allow consumers to carry food or overcharge them for the purchase in the malls/theatres, said an official from the ministry.
"We will be open to receive a complaint from people too with sufficient proofs of cinema halls or theater management restricting them to purchase food from a stall inside only or charge them heavily. Our team would reach quickly and approach the complainant and the money will be compensated from the management of theater or cinema hall," added the official.
Minister Radadiya also added that this notification would have been issued earlier too, but was delayed as his department had to consult many people in the loop, and had to fix certain technical issues in the process.
RAIDS ON RESTAURANTS, OTHER OUTLETS
- The state government is also going to start the drive to raid over the restaurants and food outlets that are selling the materials at the higher cost of maximum retail price (MRP)
- The checks on restaurants also will be random and team of survey can reach at any restaurant anytime. The government will also slam them heavy fine for charging more than MRP
