Heavy rains in south Gujarat for next 24 hours

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains for the next 24 hours in the south Gujarat region, primarily in the Valsad and Navsari districts.

There is an upper air cyclonic circulation, currently, that lies over south Gujarat and the adjoining North Konkan region, extending from 3.1km above mean sea level tiling southwards with height persists.

Moreover, a trough line was seen extending from the south Gujarat coast towards the southern parts. Due to both the systems, rains are very much likely in some pockets. In north Gujarat, light rains are expected while heavy to moderate rains might hit the southern part of the state. Kutch region is expected to remain dry.

In Ahmedabad meanwhile, there is a possibility of light rains on Sunday. As per the weatherman, the weather will be cloudy for the day with a maximum temperature of 34 degree Celsius while minimum could be 25 degree Celsius.

Light rains in some pockets

On Saturday, rainfall occured at a few places in south Gujarat. Kaprada in Valsad district received 104 mm rains from 8 am to 6 pm, followed by Dharampur -- 57 mm, Dangs -- 42 mm, Khergam and Pardi -- 29 mm and Vapi -- 24 mm.

The Kutch region, so far, has received 46 mm of rainfall against its annual average (1988 to 2017), 417 mm. North Gujarat region -- 204 mm against 723 mm, east-central Gujarat -- 337 mm against 827 mm, Saurashtra region -- 405 mm against 679 mm, south Gujarat region 1058 mm against 1435 mm of rainfall.

Average rainfall in the state till Saturday evening was 452.31 mm against 831 mm. The state, so far, has received 2.15mm of average rainfall.
