Jaipur: Public transport held to ransom, low-floor buses off the tracks

While delegates of over 20 countries were in Jaipur on Wednesday in Smart City Expo and sessions on future of mobility and transportation system were being discussed, the transportation lifeline of the city was held still following the strike of employees of Jaipur City Transport Service Limited (JCTSL). The daily commuters were once again busy to find out an alternative to travel to their offices and colleges.

It was the 10th day of the strike of these buses on Wednesday and the end of this doesn’t seem anywhere near. The employees have been demanding the implementation of recommendations of 7th pay commission and few other demands which includes getting a uniform. They have a demand charter of 24 point, which includes demand for medical facility too.

“The strike will go on, we demand that the state government and UDH minister should intervene in this matter,” said Vipin Choudhary, president of the JCTSL employees union.

A day earlier they had taken out a mashal julus at Sanganer Depot in Pratap Nagar to show their anguish. A Large number of students, working professionals among others use the low-floor buses on a daily basis.

The situation of coaching students situated on Tonk Road is difficult as they have to wait for hours for the minibuses. When these minibuses arrive, they are already overloaded so the wait increases a bit more.

With minibuses coming overloaded, daily commuters had to either wait for another bus or had to go in tata magic on several routes. Even these tata magic vehicles were running with more than their capacity and commuters were seen hanging at the back of the vehicle to go to their place of work and study.

App Based Service

Many students have started using the mobile app based motorbike service to reach their colleges. This will not be for the first time that JCTSL run low-floor buses will be on strike.
