Rajasthan: Third call for bandh in Sept forces traders to avoid it

The call of bharat bandh given by various trade bodies across the country had no effect in the city. Most retail and grocery shops remained open and did not observe the bandh. Traders informed that since this was the third bandh call in the month of September, the bandh timing was restricted till 12 noon only. However, in Jaipur, since most of the markets open by 11 am therefore the effect of bandh was not felt by customers. The Walled City markets and other markets also remained open on Friday.

“The trading community had already suffered because of two bandhs in early September and were in no mood to close the shops for the third time in the month of September,” a Johari Bazaar trader said. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) had called a ‘Bharat Bandh’ on September 28 to protest against Walmart’s acquisition of Flipkart and the nod to 100% FDI in the retail sector.
