Women empowerment must be seen in Indian context, says RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said that the issue of women empowerment should be seen in Indian context which is different from the western concept. In Indian culture, a woman is distinguished as a Matrushakti rather than Nari Shakti, whereas in the West she is seen as woman and wife.

Bhagwat was addressing “Matrushakti Sangam”, a seminar for socially active women from all districts of Rajasthan at Indira Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sansthan on Saturday. The RSS chief said: “Women empowerment should be discussed in the Indian context and not on the basis of western ideas. Indianisation of western ideas was necessary and there is a necessity of strict laws for the protection of women. But laws have their own limitations. The ultimate solution can be found by spreading awareness in the society. “We can accomplish the goal of women’s safety differentiation between the right and the wrong in the society,” Bhagwat said.

He clarified the terms like Nari Shakti, Mahilashakti and Matrushakti. He said Matrushakti was the Bhartaiya view for women. He said that men and women complement each other. Women are no less than men in any way and are capable of carrying out innumerable tasks with ease that are very difficult for men. He stressed the importance of woman power as he said that a country cannot prosper without the participation and contribution of women. Women comprise 50% the nation’s strength. Their contribution to the development of the nation is of utmost importance.
