Cashier shot dead in Delhi: Guard who lost his gun can't work unless he gets it back

Dev Narayan, the security guard at the Corporation Bank, who was hit by one of the masked robbers on Friday, cannot work anywhere now unless he has his gun.

The double barrel gun was Dev's personal weapon and was snatched by one of the accused. Dev is a retired Hawaldaar of the Indian Army.

"Unless I have my gun, I cannot work anywhere. It was my personal gun. When the first masked man entered, I asked him to remove the 'gamcha' (mask). Within minutes some of them brandished their pistols and entered the bank. I tried my best to stop them but they hit me on the back of my head and took my gun away," said Dev.

The bank's peon, Akhilesh Kumar, who was also present when the incident took place, was in the washroom, the place where cashier Santosh Kumar was shot dead. Akhilesh thanked his stars that he was alive but was aggrieved at losing Santosh.

"I was in the washroom and was coming out when they had fired at Kumar. Luckily they did not fire at me and just indicated that I should stay in. Later they locked the washroom door from outside and carried out the heist," said Akhilesh.

Both the employees stated that the entire incident of dacoity was over in a mere six to seven minutes.

They also fired in the air to scare them. Bank employees added that neither Santosh had retaliated or said anything despite that he was shot dead. The staff members had eaten lunch together and resumed work when the incident took place.
