Despite ongoing strike, Pink City’s transport lifeline is back on roads
Even though the strike of JCTSL employees continued on Friday, the efforts made by JCTSL management have started showing some results. On Friday, many low-floor buses were seen on road giving some relief to the daily commuters. The buses of mostly long routes were seen on road picking the passengers from particular stops.
JCTSL OSD Manish Fauzdaar has been trying since last few days to make the striking employees agree and the result was visible with few buses coming out of the depot and moving on roads. JCTSL officials have been asking the striking employees to return and their issues will be discussed. As the model code of conduct was imposed on October 6, every section of employees which was on strike has called it off as the talks with government is not possible now.
However, the strike continued on the 27th day and its close to one month that the strike of the low-floor buses, which are known as the lifeline of the city is on halt. The striking employees claimed that none of the buses had come out of the depots and 100% movement of buses was not being done. However, few buses on Thursday were seen on road despite the contradictory claims of the striking employees. Slowly, the daily commuters have learned to cope up with this strike which is going on since past 27 days. The number of private minibuses has gone up and daily commuters are using them which are getting a large part of the share of passengers of these low-floor buses.
It’s a strange situation for the JCTL management as due to strike since last 27 days, the company is not earning revenue, which it gets as the sale of tickets while the striking employees are demanding salaries along with other demands. The various demands of low-floor employees include that the employees who have been left out of the ESIC scheme should be given the benefit of a comfortable medical scheme.
They are also demanding uniform allowance while they have many other demands too pertaining to weekly off, bonus ex gratia etc. A large number of students, working professionals etc use the low-floor buses on a daily basis.
