Gurugram: Wife of additional sessions' judge who was shot at by bodyguard dies of injuries

The wife of the additional sessions judge who was shot at by his bodyguard has succumbed to her injuries.

On Saturday, the personal security guard of an additional sessions judge shot at his wife and son in Gurugram on Saturday afternoon in a busy market area of Sector 51.

The Gurugram police arrested the accused, identified as constable Mahipal Singh (32), from the Gurugram-Faridabad route. Singh is a Head Constable with Haryana Police. Gurugram Commissioner of Police KK Rao said the constable is suffering from depression and is mentally unstable.

Singh had been posted with ASJ Shrikant Sharma for the past two years. The police are interrogating him to identify the reason behind the shooting.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Sulochana Gajraj said that the victims - Ritu and Dhurv - had gone to shop to Arcadia Market in Sector 51. Singh was escorting them. He shot at them when they stepped out of the car.

According to eyewitnesses, Singh shot Dhruv in his head and chest first and when Ritu tried to rescue Dhruv, Singh shot at her as well. Ritu received three gunshot injuries in her chest and abdomen.

The accused can be seen dragging an injured Dhruv towards the car in a video that has been circulating on social media. However, when Singh is unable to pull Dhruv inside the car, he is seen leaving him on the road and fleeing from the spot.

Gajraj said the police team could not promptly find Mahipal anywhere near the spot. "He was later arrested from Faridabad." Gurgaon police PRO Subhash Bokan told PTI .
