Pet lovers' association to carry out protest from today at Jantar Mantar

Expressing their concerns over the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (Dog breeding, marketing and pet shop), the pet lovers' association will be carrying a two-day protest at Jantar Mantar. They will carry out the protest on Saturday and Sunday.

The association claim that the rules in the act have created problems for the owners of the pet, as they have been framed without having any stakeholder in the committee. The association has now planned to protest at Jantar Mantar with their demands.

Leaders from different parties are expected to reach and extend support to the protest. Salman Khurshid and Aam Aadmi Party leader Somnath Bharti are expected to be at the protest.

According to the General Secretary of the association, the law classifies an owner of a pair of pets into the category of commercial breeders if their pet gives birth to offsprings. Moreover, according to rules, an individual has to have at least 256 square feet of area in a house if he intends to pet a pair of Great Dane breed of dog.

"While developed countries like the United States of America and Australia have a very little space mandatory to pet a pair of great Dane, India has virtually made it impossible for households to pet a pair of Great Dane. USA asks only for 41.5 square feet of area and Australia has 56 square feet as mandatory space," said Ajay Pratap Singh, General Secretary, Pet lovers' Association.
