Signature Bridge accident: I had high hopes for him, says Chandra Shekhar's dad

The 21-year-old Chandra Shekhar was the youngest son of his family and his father, an MCD school teacher had high hopes for him. While his brother claimed that he had warned him not to go on rides with the Satya Vijay Shankaran as he used to drive fast. Shankaran had planned to visit the bridge on Thursday.

According to Shekhar's father Shiv Narayan Sharma, a government school teacher posted at MCD School in Delhi's Pushp Vihar, Sector-4 got a call from the hospital informing him about the accident.

"I got a call around 11 am from the hospital stating that Shekhar had met with an accident and have received multiple fractures. As I rushed to the hospital, they informed me that my son is no more," said Sharma.

Wiping his tears, Sharma further said that he was his youngest son among the three and had high expectations from him as he was going to be a doctor.

Shekhar, a native of Madhubani Bihar lives in South Delhi's Khanpur area. He lived with his parents, two brothers and a sister. The eldest brother Arvind had studied MSc from IIT, Gujarat and was preparing for UPSC, while the second brother Govind was studying Master in Art (MA) from a college of Delhi University and his sister Priyanka had just completed her 12th.

According to Govind, the bike belonged to Shankaran and it was gifted to him by his parents on his birthday. Police said that the bike had a registration date of June this year.

"The entire family was so happy when he had cleared his medical entrance exams. I always stopped him from going out on bike rides looking at the traffic and never allowed him to ride a bike as well," said Govind.
