Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists killed in South Kashmir
Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were gunned down by security forces in a brief encounter at Tikken village in South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Saturday.
The encounter started after police and security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Tikken after having received credible inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.
"As the search operation was going on, hiding terrorists fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated. In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter," said a police spokesman.
The slain terrorists were identified as Liaqat Munir Wani and Wajid Ul Islam of Hizbul Mujhadeen.
"Both terrorists were involved in a series of terror attacks on security establishments and many other civilian atrocities in the area. Liyaqat was involved in a number of terror cases," said the spokesman.
Police said arms and ammunition including an AK-47 and an INSAS rifle and other incriminating materials were recovered from the site of encounter. "The INSAS rifle is the same as the one terrorists had earlier snatched from Murran, Pulwama," said the spokesman.
