Jaipur: ‘Smart City’ braces to meet September deadline

Traffic resumed at Kishanpole Bazar from Choti Chaupar to Ajmeri Gate on Friday following completion of smart city works on one side of the road. The duct laying work is now expected to commence on the other side of the road, thus interrupting traffic towards Choti Chaupar. The Jaipur Metro officials, though claim that the task would be completed before September end.

“All our projects are advancing according to schedule and we are thus hopeful that the works at Kishanpole Bazar will also be completed by September 30,” said a senior officer at Jaipur Smart City Limited, following a board meeting on Friday.

At the meeting held at Jaipur Metro office, on Friday, the board gave formal approval to projects of development of Jawahar Nala and other works, while progress of the other projects were also discussed. The officials are on a strict timeline as chief minister Vasundhara Raje while inaugurating the smart lighting project on Independence Day had instructed to make the Walled City free from blockades due to ongoing smart city and metro works.

Among the ongoing works at Walled City, laying of multipurpose underground ducts remain a major task. These ducts will provide a single system for laying telephone, electricity and other cables while will also have separate provision from drainage. The laying of cement grids includes digging of the roads in the congested neighbourhood.

“Monsoon had delayed the first part of duct laying at Kishanpole Bazar, still we have been able to initiate traffic on it a day before the scheduled date. We expect the second part to be completed even sooner,” adds the officer.

The Protest

Smart City works propose to improve upon the basic infrastructure at the heritage Walled City area. However, the inconvenience due to works had attracted protest from locals.
