Rajasthan: Fake entries in lakhs, Congress cries foul over deleted 31,000 voters

The state election department released final voter list on Friday and has deleted nearly 31,000 voters from the rolls. Crying foul, the Congress has termed the department’s stance as ‘inappropriate’ and urged the election authorities to scan the list once again and delete fake voters which it believes are in lakhs. “As per the statistics, nearly 41 lakh voters having multiple entries were screened but the election department has deleted only 31,032 voters. The Jaipur district administration even accepted entry of 1 lakh multiple entries in the list. We will take action and approach election authorities again,” said Congress spokesperson Archana Sharma.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anand Kumar released the final voters list which has been prepared after second review programme conducted across the state. “This is the final list of the voters which has been uploaded on the official website of the CEO office. Every voter can check his or her number on it. Till the nomination paper filing will continue, the candidates can get their names added,” said Kumar while addressing the scribes at the secretariat in Jaipur.

The statistics available with the election authorities state that 4.07 crore voters were registered at the time of 2013 assembly election and now it has reached 4.74 crore with registration of nearly 67 lakh new voters. This indicates that 16 per cent voters were added into the rolls as compared to the previous election held in 2013. It is almost 4 per cent higher than the number in 2008 election when 12 per cent voter count was added. Nearly 3.63 crore were registered in 2008 which reached 4.8 crore in 2013.

In the publication of electoral rolls, nearly 20 lakh voters are young while rest were those who were left out of the rolls or are specially-abled. It is also for the first time that the election authorities have deleted more voters than adding them under its second review programme which was conducted from July to September. In the review, the election authorities added 7,91,320 voters through application while 7,60,288 voters were deleted from the list who are either dead, displaced or are fake.
