Rajasthan: Striking employees mulling new ways to get govt attention

The striking employees of Rajasthan Roadways and Jaipur City Transport Service Limited (JCTSL), who run intercity and intracity buses respectively are on strike since last 13 days.

They are trying every way for government’s attention. On Saturday, 13 employees of Rajasthan roadways got their head tonsured. In Hindu tradition, the head is tonsured on the 13th day of someone’s death in the family. However, to oppose the government and to make the agitation stronger, this method was adopted by the roadways employees. The agitating employees got together at Sindhi Camp bus stand and 13 of them got their head tonsured. The bus stand is currently the focal point of their agitation as its the central and biggest bus stand of the state. On Sunday, they have planned to beg from the common man at the same spot.

On the other hand, on Friday, the striking employees of JCTSL buses started begging money near Lal Kothi. The president of JCTSL employees union Vipin Choudhary informed that this was done since the JCTSL management and UDH minister Srichand Kriplani were saying that they do not have funds.

Before this, they had taken out a Mashaal julus a few days back near Sanganer bus depot. In coming days, the people may see more of such activities if the strike continues. Both these category of buses are off the road since last 13 days and people are now perturbed over this.

In the last few days, attempts were made by roadways employees to stop the Haryana buses coming to the state and they were requested to support the striking employees. Similar appeal from the side of striking employees has also been made to UP Roadways buses.

The striking employees of roadways are adamant on getting their demands fulfilled and are blaming the government for not honoring the commitments it had made after an agreement was reached between them and government after the strike in July. The JCTSL buses striking employees have been demanding the implementation of recommendations of 7th pay commission and a few other demands which includes getting uniform. They are having a demand charter of 24 points which includes demand for medical facility too.

With Beggar’s Bowl

On Friday, the striking employees of JCTSL buses that ply in city started begging for money near Lal Kothi crossing. The president of JCTSL employees union Vipin Choudhary said that this was done since the JCTSL management and UDH minister are saying they can’t meet our demands due to lack of funds.
