Toll-booth queues ruin fliers' commute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport
An issue with the server at the toll-booth before the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport on Saturday morning rendered passengers anxious and inconvenienced due to the ensuing long queues.
While many passengers were seen requesting the toll-booth official to allow them to proceed towards the departure bay owing to the delay, some were also seen getting out of cars and walking up to the terminal to catch flights.
Those travelling to the airport said that the queue was till the airport circle. A 38-year-old passenger Pratik Sehgal, travelling to Delhi by 9.15 am flight cited the entire incident as ridiculous. He said, "Mornings and evenings are peak hours at airports across the country. While I understand that passengers should keep some time in their hand for such unexpected issues, there could be those also who rush towards the airport at the last minute. Keeping passengers comfort on priority, they could have relaxed the toll-booth rule for an hour or so."
When DNA checked with airport authorities, they said, "There was a server issue at the toll-booth due to which the slip was not getting printed. The issue was resolved by 9.30 am."
Interestingly, to deal with toll-booth issues, the Ahmedabad airport authorities last month sent a proposal to AAI, that would drastically reduce the toll-booth fare. As per the proposal, cars will have to pay only Rs 20 as an entry fee which will be valid for 30 minutes. In the present situation, cars had to pay Rs 85 if they cross 10 minutes to exit the airport.
