Rajasthan: Mount Abu residents protest over delay in passing of Building Bylaws
The residents of Mount Abu are out in protest to safeguard their constitutional rights. Mount Abu will remain close for an indefinite period till the Rajasthan Government passes the Building Bylaws, says Abu Sangharsh Samiti. All the markets, private schools, hotels, restaurants and medical stores of both rural and urban areas remained closed throughout the day on Wednesday.
In Mount Abu, Rajasthan High Court had enforced a ban on new construction in 1994, which was further implemented by the Supreme Court in 2002. Also, Mount Abu was declared an eco-sensitive zone in 2009. Soon after, the monitoring committee was formed to give repair and renovation permission. The committee also ordered to bring a master plan in line with Mount Abu being it an eco-sensitive zone.
On a PIL filed on the master plan sent to the state government in 2015, a ban of National Green Tribunal (NGT) was imposed, which was removed by the body on January 30. Mount Abu Municipality then sent its Building Bylaws to the state government.
